Herkimer Mountain features multiple zones that require different digging styles. You will have the option to dig through an alluvial layer for exposed pockets or do some hard rock mining in the main mine. We dig rain or shine. Check the weather forecast. The mountain experiences variable weather conditions so come prepared, especially if you are planning to stay overnight.
WHAT TO BRING
1. Extra set of clothing you.
2. Paper to wrap your crystals.
3. The weather can change quickly in the mountains. Bring sun protection and a jacket for rain and cool temperature.
4. Closed toe shoes REQUIRED! Hiking or work boots are best.
5. Bug spray and/or a bug hat or net is suggested.
6. Once you start mining it can be very exciting! Make sure to bring plenty of food, a cooler and lots of water or electrolyte drinks. We have picnic tables to take a break.
7. Work gloves. Choose ones that allow for some dexterity.
8. Buckets and smaller bags for delicate finds.
9. You can bring your own pop-up tent, canopy or beach umbrellas to shade a stake while you mine.
